Raku Firing Workshop

Detailed instruction in hand-building and throwing techniques specific to Raku
Creation and firing of a personal body of work using diverse glazing, prepping, and finishing methods

Construction and use of a portable trashcan kiln for the final day's firing

In this workshop pottery wizard Jerry Hendershot will explore the process of making, firing and kiln building for Raku. We will explore hand-building and throwing techniques with the goal of Raku firing a body of work using different glazing, prepping, and finishing techniques. We will explore in-fire processes as well as post-firing practice. During the course of this class, we will build a portable trashcan kiln and fire it on our last day of class.
White stoneware will be available for students to purchase. Tuscarora Pottery School will supply all tools and glazes, however students are encouraged to bring along any additional tools or materials they would like to utilize during the workshop. Lunch and dinner will be provided for students, however breakfast will be your own responsibility. Each student will be given their own room, while couples can stay in multi-bed rooms.
